First, confirm the university and campus#
Konkuk University and Sejong University are both in Gwangjin-gu, but they do not share one campus gate.
- Konkuk University Seoul Campus sits beside Konkuk University Station on Lines 2 and 7. Do not confuse it with Konkuk's GLOCAL Campus in Chungju.
- Sejong University sits by Children's Grand Park Station on Line 7, east of Konkuk.
The two campuses are close enough to share a wider housing market, but a room that is ideal for one can create an unnecessary daily trip for the other. Search by the gate or building you will use, not only by the district name.
| Main destination | Start your search around | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Konkuk University Seoul Campus | Konkuk University Station, Jayang, or Hwayang | Short campus access versus late-night street noise |
| Sejong University | Children's Grand Park Station, Gunja, or Neung-dong | Direct Line 7 access versus fewer Line 2 options |
| Both campuses | Hwayang or the Line 7 corridor between them | Flexible access versus a less direct route to either main gate |
| Campus plus Seongsu lifestyle | Ttukseom, Seongsu, or east Seongsu | Cafes and creative district access versus higher cost and commute |
Apply for university housing first#
University housing is usually the best price benchmark and the easiest first-semester setup. It can also have fixed dates, shared-room rules, health-document requirements, and limited capacity.
Konkuk University#
Konkuk's on-campus residence system is called KU:L House. The official university information describes multiple residence halls on the Seoul Campus, with international-student availability depending on the student's program and current notice. Start with the official KU:L House introduction and the accommodation instructions sent by Konkuk's international office.
Do not assume a general undergraduate dormitory price or application form applies to an exchange, visiting, or language-program student. Confirm eligibility, room type, stay period, deposit, meal plan, and cancellation deadline for your specific program.
Sejong University#
Sejong's official inbound exchange page lists on-campus rooms in the Gwanggaeto Building for exchange and visiting students. As of this review, it shows three- and four-person room formats with four-month totals of approximately KRW 1,071,200 to KRW 1,247,200, subject to change.
Review Sejong's current exchange-student dormitory information and the semester application notice. Current notices may also require health documents before move-in and can close once rooms are full.
What the current furnished market costs#
On August 19, 2026, Locali had 126 active sample records categorized in Konkuk / Sejong. Using the same guest-facing pricing calculation shown on Locali, the middle 50% of four-week totals ran from approximately $1,063 to $2,305, with a median around $1,633.
This is a planning reference, not a standard student-room quote. The sample includes compact residence rooms, private rooms, studios, one-bedroom units, and larger homes. Room size, privacy, guest capacity, exact dates, and included charges explain much of the range.
Request an exact-date breakdown for every serious candidate:
| Cost line | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Stay price | Exact check-in and check-out dates |
| Management and utilities | Included, separately billed, or capped |
| Cleaning and bedding | One-time amount and what is supplied |
| Deposit | Amount, holder, deductions, and return timing |
| Platform or service fee | Included now or added later |
| Cancellation | Refund by date and treatment of every charge |
| International payment | Accepted method, currency, and processing cost |
Locali's Sample Stays are reference examples. Current availability, final price, foreign-guest conditions, host acceptance, and residence-document support are checked before commitment.
Which area fits your daily routine#
Konkuk University Station and Jayang#
This is the most direct station base for Konkuk's Seoul Campus. Lines 2 and 7 meet here, and the surrounding streets provide restaurants, cafes, shopping, cinema, supermarkets, and late-night activity.
Choose it when: Konkuk is your main destination and you want campus access plus strong city transport.
Check: Noise, exact street orientation, and the final campus gate. The busiest food and nightlife blocks can remain active late into the evening.
Hwayang and the space between the campuses#
Hwayang-dong covers much of the student area between Konkuk and Sejong. Some addresses can serve either campus, but station access and street atmosphere vary block by block.
Choose it when: You want a residential compromise between both universities or find better value away from the largest station intersections.
Check: Whether the property is actually closer to Konkuk University Station, Children's Grand Park Station, or neither. Test the full walk with your campus gate selected.
Children's Grand Park and Sejong University#
Children's Grand Park Station on Line 7 is the clearest rail base for Sejong University. The campus, park, daily services, and student restaurants are concentrated within a practical routine.
Choose it when: Sejong is your main destination and you value a direct campus approach.
Check: Listings sometimes use the wider Konkuk or Gunja label. Confirm which station exit and Sejong gate are closest.
Gunja and Neung-dong#
Gunja connects Lines 5 and 7 and generally feels more residential than the busiest Konkuk University Station streets. It can work well for Sejong students and for guests who need Line 5 access.
Choose it when: A quieter base and cross-city transport matter more than living in the main student nightlife district.
Check: The walking distance to Sejong and the last route home. A Gunja address can be convenient without being campus-adjacent.
Seongsu and Ttukseom#
Seongsu offers cafes, studios, retail, Han River access, and Line 2 connections toward Konkuk. It is attractive for lifestyle reasons, but it is usually more expensive and less campus-focused.
Choose it when: You want the Seongsu experience and accept a short train, bus, or longer walk to class.
Check: Compare an equivalent room near campus before paying a lifestyle premium. Also test weekend crowds and the walk from the nearest station.

Explore the guidePick the housing format before the listing#
Goshiwon or residence room#
Often the lowest-cost private format, but size, window quality, bathroom type, and shared facilities vary sharply. Confirm whether the window opens outdoors and what cooking or laundry is allowed.
Share house or private room#
A private bedroom with shared common areas can balance price and community. Check the bathroom ratio, cleaning responsibility, guest policy, quiet hours, security, and any gender-specific rules.
Furnished studio or one-bedroom#
This provides more privacy and normally includes a private bathroom, compact kitchen, washing machine, bed, and basic storage. Confirm the exact unit, bedding, cookware, desk, floor, elevator, sunlight, and management charges.
Entire multi-room home#
This can suit friends, families, or visiting faculty. Confirm the legal guest limit, bedroom layout, extra-guest charges, and whether every occupant is named or accepted under the agreement.
A practical semester timeline#
Eight to ten weeks before arrival#
- Apply for the correct university housing by the official deadline.
- Confirm your campus, faculty building, semester dates, and orientation schedule.
- Decide which room formats and shared facilities are acceptable.
- Set a total budget including utilities, cleaning, deposit, and fees.
Four to eight weeks before arrival#
- Compare two or three station areas using the full door-to-building route.
- Request exact-date totals for realistic candidates.
- Check private cancellation terms against your dormitory and visa timeline.
- Ask what proof of residence the accommodation provider can issue.
Before paying#
- Confirm the exact unit, address, contracting party, and actual guest.
- Get all mandatory charges and cancellation terms in writing.
- Confirm foreign-guest acceptance and overseas payment options.
- Save the listing, agreement, messages, and payment record.
At check-in#
- Photograph existing damage and test essential appliances.
- Confirm heating, cooling, trash, recycling, access, and parcel instructions.
- Report discrepancies in writing promptly.
Residence Card and housing documents#
Students staying more than 90 days may need foreigner registration, still commonly called an ARC application, and proof of residence. The accepted evidence depends on status of stay and the accommodation arrangement. A reservation made under someone else's name does not automatically establish the student's residence.
Before booking, ask whether the provider can supply the housing-side documents requested for your case, such as:
- An agreement or reservation document identifying the actual guest and stay dates.
- A confirmation of accommodation or residence.
- A copy of the accommodation provider's ID or business registration when applicable.
Locali's paid verification workflow discloses its concierge role and the actual guest to the host or operator, then checks whether the requested housing documents can be provided before commitment. Suitability still depends on the host, contract structure, visa case, and current immigration requirements. Locali cannot issue government documents or guarantee an immigration decision.
Confirm your case through your university and the Korea Immigration Service 1345 Immigration Contact Center.
How Locali Personal Search works#
If the dormitory is unavailable or Korean-language housing is difficult to verify, Locali can search around your actual campus routine.
- Send a free housing brief with your dates, university building, budget, room preference, and deal-breakers.
- Receive three candidate profiles, the reason and trade-off for each, and a personalized Seoul setup guide. The free preview targets delivery within two business days.
- If the direction feels right, the current founding-guest $49 retainer unlocks exact details and starts Korean-language availability, final-price, foreign-guest-condition, and residence-document checks.
- The retainer is credited toward Locali's final 10% concierge service fee, subject to a $200 minimum total service fee.
The free candidates are recommendations, not reservations. No property payment or booking is made without your approval. Read the current concierge terms and the broader Seoul short-term rental guide before deciding.
Frequently asked questions#
Can I live near Konkuk University and commute to Sejong?#
Yes. Line 7 connects the two campus station areas, and some Hwayang addresses sit between them. However, the daily walk and station entrance still matter, so test the route to your exact Sejong building.
Is Seongsu a good place for Konkuk students?#
It can be, especially if lifestyle and Line 2 access matter, but it is not usually the best value or shortest routine. Compare similar units around Jayang and Hwayang before choosing Seongsu.
Should I wait for the dormitory result before searching privately?#
Build a shortlist while waiting. Avoid a non-refundable commitment unless you understand both cancellation timelines, but do not wait until the last moment to learn the off-campus market.
Can an exchange student rent for one semester?#
Yes. Furnished studios, private rooms, share houses, residence rooms, and some entire homes accept semester-length stays. Minimum terms and discounts vary, so request an exact-date quote.
Can every rental support a Residence Card application?#
No. Ask what exact proof of residence the provider will issue and whether supporting host or business documents can be supplied when required. Confirm your visa-specific requirements before paying.
Start with the campus gate you will use#
The best student room is not simply the one with "Konkuk" or "Sejong" in its title. It is the one that fits your actual building, total cost, sleep, paperwork, and daily routine for the whole semester.
