Confirm the campus before searching#
Dongguk University operates distinct campuses and facilities:
- Seoul Campus: 30 Pildong-ro 1-gil, Jung-gu, beside Namsan between Chungmuro and Jangchung.
- WISE Campus: Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
- Biomedical Campus: Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.
This guide covers the Seoul Campus. Confirm the college, course building, and campus before comparing any listing or dormitory notice.
| Main priority | Start your search around | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Shortest campus routine | Pildong or Chungmuro | Direct access versus hills and limited furnished supply |
| Line 3 and residential balance | Jangchung or Dongguk University Station | Campus access versus fewer large commercial services |
| Central furnished inventory | Euljiro 3-ga, Euljiro 4-ga, or Jongno 5-ga | More options versus a daily transit or longer walk |
| Tourist convenience | Myeongdong | Central services versus higher prices and crowds |
| Larger or group housing | Dongdaemun or Changsin | Broader formats versus a longer route and variable hills |
Apply for Dongguk housing first#
Dongguk's official Seoul Campus dormitory information describes Namsan Residence Hall and current application guidance for international students. For 2026-1, the university listed a four-month Namsan Hall fee of KRW 1,595,680, including a KRW 100,000 deposit, subject to the current semester notice and student category.
The university's 2026 notices also describe Namsan Hall on the Seoul Campus and Chungmu Hall at the Chungmuro film center, with exchange students directed through the Office of International Relations. Capacity can be limited, so confirm the assigned building rather than assuming all international students live on campus.
Review the current international-student dormitory notice and confirm room occupancy, fixed dates, health documents, cooking, laundry, payment deadline, deposit return, and cancellation policy.
What the current furnished market costs#
On August 20, 2026, Locali had 127 active sample records across the wider Myeongdong and Jongno categories. Using the same guest-facing pricing calculation shown on Locali, the middle 50% of four-week totals ran from approximately $1,209 to $1,811, with a median around $1,571.
This is a central-Seoul planning reference, not a campus-side standard. The sample covers Myeongdong, central Jongno, Gwangjang Market, Jongno 5-ga, and Dongdaemun-side homes in several formats. Pildong and Jangchung can have different supply and pricing.
Request an exact-date breakdown for every serious candidate:
| Cost line | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Stay price | Exact check-in and check-out dates |
| Management and utilities | Included, separately billed, or capped |
| Cleaning and bedding | One-time amount and what is supplied |
| Deposit | Amount, holder, deductions, and return timing |
| Platform or service fee | Included now or added later |
| Cancellation | Refund by date and treatment of every charge |
| International payment | Accepted method, currency, and processing cost |
Locali's Sample Stays are reference examples. Current availability, final price, foreign-guest conditions, host acceptance, and requested residence documents are checked before commitment.
Which area fits the Seoul Campus#
Pildong and Chungmuro#
Pildong lies directly below the campus, while Chungmuro Station connects Lines 3 and 4. This is the clearest starting area for a short daily campus routine.
Choose it when: Campus access and central transport matter more than having a large student nightlife district.
Check: Hill, stairs, building age, and street activity. The final campus approach can be steep even from a close address.
Jangchung and Dongguk University Station#
Dongguk University Station on Line 3 serves the eastern side of campus and the Jangchung area. Residential streets, the park, and access toward Yaksu can create a quieter routine.
Choose it when: You want direct Line 3 access and a calmer campus-side environment.
Check: Exact campus gate and station exit. Some Jangchung addresses sit on significant slopes or farther east than the label suggests.
Euljiro 3-ga and Euljiro 4-ga#
Euljiro provides Lines 2, 3, and 5 across its station corridor, central restaurants, and a growing mix of renovated buildings and furnished stays. Campus may be reached by subway, bus, or a longer walk.
Choose it when: Central-city transport, food, and broader furnished inventory matter more than walking to class.
Check: Commercial noise, older-building access, late-night streets, and the exact route up to campus.
Jongno 5-ga and Gwangjang Market#
This area offers Line 1, market life, Cheonggyecheon access, and a sizable furnished-studio market. It is practical for central Seoul but not directly beside Dongguk.
Choose it when: You find better value or a stronger room format and accept a bus or transit leg.
Check: Door-to-building time, market noise, floor, elevator, and whether the address is on the Jongno or Dongdaemun side.
Myeongdong and Namsan side#
Myeongdong provides Line 4, airport-bus access, shopping, and extensive visitor services. Some northern Namsan addresses can be close to Dongguk, while others require a hill or transit connection.
Choose it when: Central tourist access and services are important alongside study.
Check: Price premium, crowds, building use, and the complete campus route. A Myeongdong label can cover a broad area.
Dongdaemun and Changsin#
Dongdaemun connects Lines 1 and 4 and offers late-opening services, markets, and some larger homes. It broadens the search for groups or guests who cannot find the right format near campus.
Choose it when: Room size, guest capacity, or transport choice matters more than campus adjacency.
Check: Hills, street condition, station-exit distance, and building age vary sharply around Changsin.

Goshiwon or residence room#
Often the lowest-cost private option in central Seoul, but room size, window type, bathroom arrangement, and shared facilities vary greatly. Confirm whether the window opens outdoors and what cooking and laundry are allowed.
Share house or private room#
A private bedroom with shared common areas can balance cost and community. Check bathroom ratio, cleaning responsibility, guest policy, quiet hours, security, and any gender-specific rule.
Furnished studio or officetel#
This provides more privacy and generally includes a private bathroom, compact kitchen, washer, bed, and storage. Confirm the exact unit, bedding, cookware, desk, floor, elevator, sunlight, management fee, and building use.
Entire multi-room home#
This can suit friends, couples, visiting faculty, or families. Confirm the guest limit, bedroom layout, extra-guest charges, stairs, and whether every occupant is accepted under the agreement.
A practical semester timeline#
Eight to ten weeks before arrival#
- Apply for the correct Seoul Campus residence through your student category.
- Confirm your faculty building, semester dates, and orientation schedule.
- Decide which room formats and shared facilities are acceptable.
- Set a total budget including utilities, cleaning, deposit, and fees.
Four to eight weeks before arrival#
- Compare Pildong or Jangchung with two realistic central-Seoul backups.
- Request exact-date totals for suitable candidates.
- Check private cancellation terms against the dormitory and visa timeline.
- Ask what proof of residence the accommodation provider can issue.
Before paying#
- Confirm the exact unit, address, contracting party, and actual guest.
- Get all mandatory charges and cancellation terms in writing.
- Confirm foreign-guest acceptance and overseas payment options.
- Save the listing, agreement, messages, and payment record.
At check-in#
- Photograph existing damage and test essential appliances.
- Confirm heating, cooling, trash, recycling, access, and parcel instructions.
- Report discrepancies in writing promptly.
Residence Card and housing documents#
Students staying more than 90 days may need foreigner registration, still commonly called an ARC application, and proof of residence. The accepted evidence depends on status of stay and the accommodation arrangement.
Before booking, ask whether the provider can supply an agreement identifying the actual guest, confirmation of accommodation, and supporting host identification or business registration when applicable. A reservation under another person's name does not automatically establish the student's residence.
Locali's paid verification workflow discloses its concierge role and the actual guest, then checks the requested housing documents before recommending payment. Locali cannot issue government documents or guarantee an immigration decision.
Confirm your case through Dongguk and the Korea Immigration Service 1345 Immigration Contact Center.

Frequently asked questions#
Is Chungmuro or Dongguk University Station better?#
Chungmuro provides Lines 3 and 4 plus broader central transport. Dongguk University Station is more directly associated with the eastern campus side. The better choice depends on your building and exact address.
Can I live in Myeongdong and commute to Dongguk?#
Yes, but compare the full hill, walk, and price. Myeongdong is chosen for central services and visitor convenience rather than the lowest student-housing cost.
Is the Biomedical Campus in Seoul?#
No. It is in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. Confirm your campus before booking because a Seoul Campus room is not automatically practical for daily Biomedical Campus classes.
Should I wait for the dormitory result before searching?#
Build a shortlist while waiting. Avoid a non-refundable private commitment unless you understand both cancellation timelines, but do not wait until the last moment to learn the market.
Can every rental support a Residence Card application?#
No. Ask what exact proof of residence the provider will issue and whether supporting host or business documents can be supplied when required.
Start with the correct campus and slope#
The best Dongguk room is not simply the one closest to Chungmuro or Myeongdong on a map. It is the one that fits the Seoul Campus, your building, hill, total cost, sleep, paperwork, and daily routine for the whole semester.
