Build a total budget, not a rent-only budget#

Two rooms with the same advertised monthly rent can require very different amounts before move-in. Ask for one written total covering your exact dates.

Check the campus, not only the university name#

Several universities operate more than one campus. Yonsei's Sinchon Campus is not its International Campus in Songdo. Sungkyunkwan's humanities campus in Hyehwa is not its natural-sciences campus in Suwon. Always put the exact campus and, when possible, your main building into a transit map before deciding where to live.

Measure the door-to-door commute#

A useful commute test includes:

• the walk from the home to the station or bus stop,
• waiting and transfer time,
• the route from the final stop to your campus gate, and
• the walk from the gate to your classroom building.

A direct 25-minute bus can be easier than a nominally faster route with two transfers. Check late-evening frequency if you expect clubs, group projects, or language classes after normal lecture hours.

Minimum stay and semester dates#

Private furnished listings can have minimum stays of 7, 14, 28, or more nights. Others accept only whole-week or whole-month blocks. Your university calendar may also create awkward partial periods before orientation or after final exams.
