Housing Near Korea University, Kyung Hee, HUFS & UOS: 2026 Guide

Last reviewed: August 19, 2026. Dormitory eligibility, fees, health-document rules, and application dates change by semester. Confirm the current notice from your university before making a private booking.

Need the city-wide decision framework first? Start with the student housing in Seoul guide for exchange students, then return here for campus-level detail.

First, confirm the campus#

This is the most important check for three of the four universities in this guide.

  • Korea University: This guide covers the main Seoul campus in Anam, not the Sejong campus.
  • Kyung Hee University: This guide covers the Seoul campus in Dongdaemun-gu, not the Global Campus in Yongin.
  • HUFS: This guide covers the Seoul campus in Imun, not the Global Campus in Yongin.
  • University of Seoul: UOS is in Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu.

Choosing housing for the wrong campus can turn a short student commute into an intercity trip. Confirm the campus, department building, and gate before comparing listings.

Apply for university housing first#

On-campus housing is usually the best price benchmark and simplifies the first weeks of student life. It can also fill early or be limited by exchange agreements, student status, and semester-specific allocation rules.

Korea University#

Korea University's official housing information lists options including CJ International House, Anam International House, and other Anam dormitory buildings. Building, room, and roommate allocation can depend on the specific program and notice. Start with the Global Services Center's current Korea University accommodation guidance, then follow the application notice for your student category.

The Anam campus is large and hilly in places. A room near Korea University Station may fit one side of campus, while Anam Station may be more practical for another. Check your faculty building rather than treating either station as universally best.

Kyung Hee University#

For the Seoul campus, Kyung Hee's exchange guidance identifies Sewha Hall as the on-campus dormitory. The current page also lists semester-specific fees, health documents, room checks, and a curfew, all of which can change. Review the official Kyung Hee exchange-student information and your admission email before relying on a summary.

Be careful with search results for Woojungwon or the Second Dormitory: those are associated with Kyung Hee's Global Campus in Yongin, not the Seoul campus covered here.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies#

HUFS offers GlobeeDorm on campus and International House apartment-style options directly around the Seoul campus. Its official pre-arrival guide says assignments are normally communicated about one month before the semester and that availability is not known until returning-student numbers are confirmed. Read the current HUFS Seoul-campus housing guide and keep an off-campus backup because selecting a dormitory does not guarantee a place.

University of Seoul#

UOS uses Residence Hall and International House options. Its exchange-student housing page states that on-campus housing is not guaranteed for every partner university and that results are generally announced one to two months before the semester. Confirm your eligibility and required health documents through the official UOS housing guidance.

What the current furnished market costs#

On August 19, 2026, Locali had 127 active sample records categorized in Anam / Korea University, Hoegi / Kyung Hee / HUFS, or Cheongnyangni. Using the same guest-facing pricing calculation shown on Locali, the middle 50% of four-week totals ran from approximately $829 to $2,006, with a median around $1,461.

This range includes compact residence rooms, share-house rooms, studios, and larger entire homes. It is not a quote for a standard student room, and the lowest results may involve very small or shared formats. Premium apartments and multi-bedroom homes can sit far above the range.

Locali's Sample Stays are reference examples. Current availability, final price, foreign-guest conditions, and host acceptance are checked before commitment.

Which area fits each campus#

Anam and Korea University#

Anam is the clearest starting point for Korea University students. The streets around Anam Station are student-oriented, with inexpensive restaurants, cafés, study spaces, and daily services.

Choose it when: A short campus routine matters more than direct access to Seoul's main nightlife districts.

Check: The campus gate and slope. A listing described as "near Korea University" may be closer to Jongam, Jegi-dong, or only one edge of the campus.

Hoegi and Kyung Hee#

Hoegi is the most flexible base for Kyung Hee's Seoul campus and can also work for HUFS or UOS depending on the exact address. It has a large student-rental market and useful rail connections.

Choose it when: You want the broadest off-campus choice around Kyung Hee and do not mind checking the final walk or bus segment.

Check: Whether the room is on the Kyung Hee side, UOS side, or farther east toward HUFS. "Hoegi area" covers more than one daily route.

Imun and HUFS Station#

For HUFS Seoul Campus, the blocks around HUFS Station and Imun-ro usually offer the most direct routine. Hoegi can provide more options, but it is not automatically closer to your classroom.

Choose it when: HUFS is your main destination and campus access is more important than being at a larger transport hub.

Check: Whether the property is actually near HUFS Station or simply categorized under the wider Hoegi / HUFS district.

Jeonnong and University of Seoul#

UOS sits in Jeonnong-dong between Hoegi and Cheongnyangni. Housing near the campus can be quiet and practical, while station-based options may require a bus or a longer walk.

Choose it when: You want to optimize the campus commute and are comfortable living away from a major nightlife center.

Check: The route to your UOS gate. A Cheongnyangni listing can have excellent citywide transport without being the shortest walk to campus.

Cheongnyangni#

Cheongnyangni is the eastern transport and shopping hub of this university belt. It can suit UOS, visiting researchers, couples, or students who need easier access beyond campus.

Choose it when: Rail connections, airport-bus options, department stores, and newer officetels matter alongside the university commute.

Check: The first and last segment to class. Being beside a major station does not remove the need for a bus or walk to UOS, Kyung Hee, HUFS, or Korea University.

Pick the room format before the neighborhood#

Goshiwon or residence room#

Often the lowest-cost private option, but room and window sizes can be very limited. Verify whether the bathroom is private, whether the window opens outdoors, and what cooking or laundry facilities are shared.

Share house#

A private bedroom with shared common areas can balance cost and community. Check bathroom ratio, quiet hours, guest policy, cleaning responsibility, and whether the building or floor is gender-specific.

Furnished studio or officetel#

This provides more privacy and usually includes a private kitchen, bathroom, washing machine, and basic furniture. Confirm bedding, cookware, utilities, building fees, exact floor, and whether the photos show your unit.

Entire multi-room home#

Useful for friends, families, or visiting researchers, but compare the total rather than dividing an advertised weekly price without checking guest limits and extra fees.

A practical search timeline#

Eight to ten weeks before arrival#

  • Apply for university housing by the official deadline.
  • Confirm the campus, faculty building, semester dates, and orientation schedule.
  • Decide which room formats and shared facilities are acceptable.
  • Set a total budget including utilities, cleaning, deposit, and service fees.

Four to eight weeks before arrival#

  • Compare two or three station areas and test the full commute.
  • Request exact-date totals for realistic candidates.
  • Check cancellation terms against your dormitory and visa timeline.
  • Ask what residence evidence the accommodation provider can issue.

Before paying#

  • Confirm the exact unit, address, and contracting party.
  • Get all required charges and cancellation terms in writing.
  • Confirm whether the listing accepts foreign guests and overseas payment.
  • Save the listing, agreement, messages, and payment record.

Residence Card and address documents#

Students staying long term may need proof of residence for immigration or university administration. A booking confirmation, private lease, dormitory confirmation, and host-provided document are not automatically interchangeable.

Ask both sides before committing:

  1. What does my university say my visa case requires?
  2. What exact document will this accommodation provider issue?

Confirm the current rule through your university and the Korea Immigration Service 1345 Immigration Contact Center. Locali can organize the housing-side questions but cannot issue government documents or guarantee an immigration decision.

How Locali Personal Search works#

If the dormitory is unavailable or Korean-language listings are difficult to evaluate, Locali can search around your actual campus routine.

  1. Send a free housing brief with your dates, campus building, budget, room preference, and deal-breakers.
  2. Receive three candidate profiles, the reason and trade-off for each, and a personalized Seoul setup guide. The free preview targets delivery within two business days.
  3. If the direction feels right, the current founding-guest $49 retainer unlocks exact details and starts Korean-language availability, final-price, and foreign-guest-condition checks.
  4. The retainer is credited toward Locali's final 10% concierge service fee, subject to a $200 minimum total service fee.

The free candidates are not confirmed reservations. No property payment or booking is made without your approval. Read the current concierge terms before deciding. For the southeast university corridor, use the Konkuk and Sejong housing guide.

Frequently asked questions#

Can I live in Cheongnyangni for all four universities?#

It is a useful transport hub, but not the shortest campus base for every student. It can work well for UOS and for guests with citywide travel needs; Korea University, Kyung Hee, and HUFS usually have closer station areas.

Is Hoegi best for both Kyung Hee and HUFS?#

Hoegi is flexible, especially for Kyung Hee, but HUFS Station or Imun can be more direct for HUFS. Compare the door-to-building route rather than the neighborhood label.

Should I wait for my dormitory result?#

Research alternatives while waiting, but avoid a non-refundable private commitment unless you understand both cancellation timelines. Dormitory assignment and private inventory move independently.

Can I stay for one semester?#

Yes. Residence rooms, share houses, furnished studios, and some entire homes accept semester-length stays. Minimum terms and discounts vary, so always quote the exact dates.

Are the eastern university districts cheaper than Sinchon?#

They can offer lower-cost room formats, but there is no universal discount. Compare equivalent room type, size, privacy, utilities, and total fees. For western campuses, read the Yonsei, Ewha, and Sogang housing guide. For south Seoul, use the Seoul National University housing guide.

Start with the campus gate you will use#

The best student room is not simply the one with your university name in its title. It is the one that fits your actual building, total cost, sleep, paperwork, and daily routine for the whole semester.
